Dog: Koko
Breed: French Bulldog
Age: 3 years
Location: Murrieta, CA
Program: 3-Week Reactive Dog Program
Main Issues: Reactivity, nipping during excitement, inconsistent obedience, poor boundaries
Outcome: Calmer behavior, reliable commands, improved impulse control
The Challenge
Before training, Koko knew some commands, but follow-through was inconsistent. His excitement often took over.
Before training, Koko struggled with:
- Only listening to commands when he felt like it
- Overexcitement and reactive behavior around a toddler
- Nipping during play or high-energy moments
- Reactivity toward wheels and moving objects
- Difficulty understanding boundaries inside the home
With a young child frequently present, Koko’s owner needed predictable obedience and calm behavior, not impulsive reactions.
The Training Approach
Koko completed our 3-Week Reactive Dog Program. The program is built to create stability, improve emotional control, and teach dogs how to respond to structure instead of reacting on impulse.
What training focused on:
- Turning “selective listening” into consistent, reliable obedience
- Reducing reactive behavior around movement, excitement, and fast triggers
- Improving impulse control and home boundaries
- Teaching Koko how to remain calm around children
- Reinforcing commands so they worked under real-world distractions
Training emphasized clarity and consistency so Koko understood expectations and could make better choices.
The Results
After three weeks, Koko showed clear improvement in both obedience and behavior around stimulation.
What changed:
- Commands became more consistent and dependable
- Reactivity around the toddler decreased
- Nipping during excitement was reduced
- Boundaries improved throughout the home
- Koko became calmer and easier to manage day-to-day
Koko learned how to safely and calmly coexist in a busy household environment without unpredictable bursts of reactivity.
Trainer Reflection
Reactivity is not always aggression. Dogs like Koko often need clear boundaries, structure, and consistent follow-through. Once expectations are understandable and repeatable, the dog can relax because they no longer have to guess what to do in exciting moments.
