At A Glance
Rambo enrolled in a 3-Week Reactive Program with Off Leash K9 Training under the care of Danielle. His biggest challenge was extreme overexcitement around other dogs. When he saw a dog, he would scream, pull, and lose control, making walks stressful and physically difficult for his owner. His program focused on reactivity control, leash manners, and overall public behavior.
Dog: Rambo
Breed: Bull dog/Lab mix
Location: Murrieta, CA
Program: 3-Week Reactive Program
Trainer: Danielle
Main Focus: Overexcitement reactivity, screaming and pulling on leash, public manners, owner control
Outcome: Calmer responses around dogs, improved leash control, better overall manners, safer walks
The Challenge
Rambo wasn’t aggressive, he was extremely overexcited. But the behavior was intense enough to make everyday walks miserable.
Before training, Rambo:
- Screamed and pulled whenever he saw another dog
- Lost focus completely around dog distractions
- Pulled with full body weight, making him hard to manage
- Could drag the owner down the street
- Needed better control, manners, and calm walking behavior
His owners wanted to enjoy walks again and feel confident they could safely handle him around other dogs.
The Training Approach
Rambo completed a 3-Week Reactive Program designed to teach dogs how to stay calm and controlled around high-distraction triggers.
Training focused on:
- Teaching leash control and structured walking fundamentals
- Reducing overexcitement reactivity around other dogs
- Building obedience reliability so Rambo can respond under stress
- Teaching impulse control to prevent screaming and pulling cycles
- Gradual exposure around dogs with clear criteria for calm behavior
- Proofing skills in real-world scenarios so the results carry into daily walks
The goal was to keep Rambo friendly and social while reducing the chaos.
The Results
Over three weeks, Rambo’s ability to stay composed around dogs improved dramatically.
What improved:
- Less screaming and explosive reactions when seeing dogs
- Better leash manners and overall walking control
- Improved focus and responsiveness to the handler
- More manageable public behavior and calmer outings
- Safer, more enjoyable walks for the owner
Rambo still loves other dogs, now he can walk past them without losing his mind.
Trainer Insight
Overexcitement reactivity is common, especially in social dogs, but it has to be addressed early. When dogs learn structure and impulse control, they can stay friendly without being chaotic and unsafe on leash.
