Dog Training in Riverside, CA

Expert Dog Training Services in Riverside

Riverside dog owners face unique challenges every day. Between the busy trails along the Santa Ana River, crowded parks like Mount Rubidoux, joggers, cyclists, and the constant presence of other dogs, your pup encounters more distractions in a single walk than many dogs see in a week. Off Leash K9 Training of Murrieta serves the Riverside area with training programs designed to build this level of response in real-world conditions, whether your dog is a family pet or a loyal companion.

What We Help Riverside Dogs With

Proper training transforms problem behaviors into reliable responses. Here’s what we work on with Riverside families:

Pulling on leash

Teach your dog to walk beside you with calm leash manners, making neighborhood strolls enjoyable again

Jumping on people

Help your pup learn to greet humans politely, keeping guests comfortable and safe

Excessive barking

Manage reactive barking at sounds, strangers, and neighborhood activity

Ignoring recall commands

Build a reliable come command so your dog returns to you even amid distractions

Reactivity toward other dogs

Address fear-based or over-aroused behavior with structured training

Separation anxiety

Create a foundation that helps your dog stay calm when you leave home

Every dog and family situation is different. During your free consultation, we’ll discuss your specific challenges and set realistic expectations for what training can accomplish.

Dog Training Options for Riverside, CA

Board & Train Programs

Board and train offers an immersive experience where your dog stays with our trainer for focused, daily sessions. This format works well for busy pet owners who want faster results and consistent training without managing the daily work themselves.

Programs available:

  • 2-Week On-Leash: Your dog learns come, sit, down, place, heel, and off commands with reliable on-leash response
  • 3-Week Off-Leash: Extends training to distraction-proof off-leash obedience
  • 3-Week Reactive Dog: Addresses reactivity through structured behavior modification
  • 4-Week “Rap Sheet” Rehab: For dogs with severe behavior challenges (note: due to variables including owner follow-through, this program does not guarantee a complete fix)

Board and train programs typically run 14 to 21 days depending on the program. The ExpeditePro™ add-on lets you skip the typical wait, includes head trainer involvement, and comes with an equipment bundle.

Your dog returns home reliable and obedient in the commands advertised, and you receive free refresher training for life.

Private 1-on-1 Training Sessions

Private sessions allow personalized attention for your dog and family. Training happens on your schedule, and you learn alongside your dog so you can continue the work at home.

Options include:

  • Basic Obedience: Foundation commands for everyday life
  • Basic & Advanced Obedience: Comprehensive training for owners ready to commit to daily practice (about 45 minutes per day recommended)
  • In-home training: Available within a 30-mile commute from our location, so you can work on behavior in the environment where problems occur

Private lessons offer a 100% refund after the initial session if you’re not satisfied. Results depend on consistent owner follow-through between sessions.

Our Top Training Programs

Our Training Process

Step 1: Free Consultation

We meet with you to understand your dog’s current behavior, your family’s lifestyle, and what you want to accomplish. This helps us recommend the right training format and set clear expectations.

Step 2: Program Selection

Based on the consultation, we’ll recommend whether board and train, private sessions, or a combination makes the most sense for your situation. We’ll explain the timeline, what your dog will learn, and what you’ll need to do to maintain results.

Step 3: Training Implementation

Owner Tom McGovern and the Off Leash K9 Training team work with your dog using proven methods. For board and train, your dog receives daily training in a safe environment. For private sessions, we teach you and your dog together so you build the ability to continue the work.

Step 4: Owner Education & Follow-up

Training doesn’t end when your dog comes home. We provide transfer sessions to teach you exactly how to give commands and maintain your dog’s new skills. Board and train clients receive free refresher sessions for the life of their dog, ensuring long-term success.

“We had Chantel Chavez train our dog Minnie. I was a fantastic experience for Minnie, my wife and me. Chantel is gentle, kind and really knows how to effectively train dogs. Can’t give her enough positive compliments!!! Bob Hardesty and Minnie”

“Thank you, Off Leash K9, for guiding us through this training journey. On the first day home, Loki was a little awkward, but since then, he’s been happy and eager to show what he’s learned. I’ve been practicing Instructor Elaine’s methods, and the before-and-after difference is clear. On the second day, once he realized he was home, he got a bit overexcited and jumpy; after three verbal call-outs and a brief bump to 45 on the e-collar, he settled right down. We’re grateful for your help and excited to keep building on this progress.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What age should my dog start training?

Puppies can begin with clicker and treat foundations at any age through our Positive Puppy Program and Basic Marker Mastery approach. E-collar training generally starts at 5 months after your pup has developed foundational skills. It’s never too late to enroll an adult dog either.

Do you offer guarantees on your training?

For private lessons, we offer a 100% refund after the initial session if you’re not satisfied. However, private lessons cannot guarantee results since owner follow-through is outside our control.

For board and train, your dog will be reliable and obedient in the commands advertised by the end of their stay. You also receive free refresher training for life to maintain those results.

Do you use e-collars in training?

E-collars are used as a communication tool, not punishment. The remote has a range up to 400 yards, allowing reliable response even at distance. We introduce e-collar work at around 5 months of age after building a foundation with reward-based methods. Our Basic Marker Mastery program does not use e-collars and relies entirely on clicker and treat training.
